Petes Volunteer at PRHC
Peterborough Regional Health Centre′s newest volunteers are stick handling their way into the hearts of pediatric patients as part of their new Community Outreach Program.
Each Wednesday Peterborough Petes players come to the hospital to visit with inpatients and children in the surgical outpatient area.
"Each Petes program has an objective; and this one was designed with a goal to reach children who cannot come to a game," says John Salfi, team promotions manager, adding community is a big part of being a Peterborough Pete.
The players hand out autographs, photo cards and care packages as well as visit with the children. Last week players and a patient joined in a video game.
"We look forward to having the players on the unit," says Lois Scott, child life specialist in Maternal Child Services. "Even the children′s parents are excited — the players seem to make everyone′s day."
The team gives the children game tickets, game jerseys, hockey accessories and books, donated by AmeriCredit, Bauer Nike Hockey and Chapters.
