Petes take Goaltender with first pick in third
Brandon, Manitoba — Western Manitoba hockey fans will have their first opportunity to watch highly touted defenceman Dustin Kohn Wednesday night when the Wheat Kings play host to the Red Deer Rebels at the Keystone Centre.r

A second round draft choice of the New York Islanders in last summer’s National Hockey League entry draft, the 6’1″ 195 lb. Edmonton native will arrive in Winnipeg early this afternoon and is expected to be in Brandon in time for tonight’s Western Hockey League game.r

The Wheat Kings acquired the 3-year WHL veteran from the Calgary Hitmen at Tuesday’s Trade Deadline in exchange for veteran Derek LeBlanc and a conditional fifth round draft pick. In 38 games with the Hitmen this season, Kohn had two goals, 14 points and 20 minutes in penalties.r

In 161 career WHL games, he has scored thirteen goals, 66 points and accumulated 94 penalty minutes.r

The acquisition of Kohn was one of two trades completed by Brandon general manager Kelly McCrimmon on Tuesday. To make room on the Wheat Kings’ blueline, Brandon sent 17-year old defenceman Mike Cann to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a second round draft choice in the 2007 bantam draft.r

Kohn is one of eight defenceman still on the Brandon roster and is expected to be wearing #4 when he hits the ice for tonight’s game.r
