Michael Clarke scores 2 against His old Team
Michael Clarke scored a pair of goals against his old team and Nick Ritchie had 3 assists as the Petes beat the Spitfires 7-5 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor to kick start a 3 games in 3 nights weekend. The Petes will travel to Saginaw on Fridy before plying in Plymouth on Saturday night.
The Spitfires opened the scoring 2:43 into the game on a goal by Nick Ebert, however, the Petes came back with 3 unanswered first period goal by Clarke at 4:03, Chase Hatcher at 9:04 and Stephen Pierog at 18:04 to take a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
The Petes went ahead 4-1 1:12 into the second period when Jonatan Tanus cashed in on a Brett Findlay rebound. Kerby Rychel cut into the Petes lead at 5:36 on the powerplay making in 4-2, but the Petes restored their 3 goal lead at 9:03 when Stephen Nosad ripped a shot past Jaroslav Pavelka to end his night and bring in Jordan DeKort. The change in net minders sparks the Spitfires to 3 unanswered goals as Remy Giftopoulos scored on the powerplay at 11:44, Brady Vail at 17:56 and Ben Johnson tied the game at 19:38 sending the teams to the dressing rooms tied at 5 after 40 minutes.
The Petes got back to business in the third period outshooting the Spitfires 18-7 and outscoring them 2-0 with goals by Clarke at 10:45 on the powerplay and Greg Betzold at 18:48 while DeKort was leaving the ice, but got caught part way to the bench.
The Petes now sit 7 points behind the Kingston Frontenacs for the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
