Doug Jarvis (1972-1975)
One of the most successful players to come out of the Petes system is Doug Jarvis. He played three seasons beginning in 1972-1973, putting up 133 points in his last season as a Pete. After being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1975 Amateur Draft 24th overall, being traded almost immediately to the Montreal Canadiens. Doug teamed up with former Petes teammate Bob Gainey to lead the Habs to 4 straight Stanley Cups from 1976-1979. The Habs traded him and Rod Langway in 1982 to the Washington Capitals where the duo made the Caps cup contenders. After 4 Washington seasons, Doug moved onto Hartford for 3 seasons before retiring from playing in 1988. He then went into coaching and took the Minnesota North Stars to the Cup Finals in 1991, ultimately losing to the Penguins, He coached Minnesota/Dallas for 14 seasons, winning a cup with them in 1999. He was an assistant coach with Montreal from 2005-2009 and then became an assistant with the Boston Bruins where he still coaches and won a cup with them in 2011.
