Developing young players through Petes CCM Mentorship Program

The Peterborough Petes continue to work with the community in helping in the development of young hockey players.
The Petes began their third consecutive CCM Mentorship Program this campaign and in the program, Petes players attend local minor hockey practices to assist in the development of these young athletes who play at different levels in the minor system.
Petes defencemen Cole Fraser and Matt Timms attended the practice of the Peterborough Havelock Metal novice AA Petes at the Northcrest Arena on Monday and took part in a variety of drills with the seven- and eight-year-old hockey players.
The practice session lasted about an hour but members of the young contingent, currently undefeated in Lakeshore league play at 10-0-1, and the coaching staff, took in every minute of it.
“It is all about community and the kids get to see some of their idols,” said novice head coach Mike Farrugia. “It is important in the hockey community and it’s great to see the Petes take the time to do this and help out. It is good for the kids morale and they see what hard work is all about.”
Farrugia added it was good, especially for young players at this level, to hear a different voice from their coaches and parents.
“They can learn life lessons as well and can see it through their eyes,” he said. “It is an added element.”
Minor Petes defenceman Cohen Bidgood, who is team captain, said it was a good experience.
“I see what it is like to be a Petes defenceman,” he said. “I see the hard work. It is good to be there with them. You learn a lot.”
