Petes Unable to Maintain Buzz Against Gens in Holiday Matchup
The Petes donned a set of ugly Christmas sweater jerseys going into tonight’s Toy Story themed game against their rival Oshawa Generals.
The first period saw Jax Dubois sent to the sin bin before the two minute mark, which allowed Calum Ritchie to convert a pass from Gens Captain Ty Tullio and put the guys in red on the score board during the power play. Although the shots remained relatively even in the opening frame, the Generals were able to find the back of the net more frequently.
At 6:63 Stuart Rolofs extended the Gens lead, following up from another pass from Edmonton Oilers prospect, Tullio.
Tullio would take his turn snagging a goal for Oshawa at 9:51, when he clipped one past Michael Simpson while on a power play, following a high-sticking penalty from Konnor Smith. Daniel Michaud would give the Gens a four goal lead at 15:06, but Sam Mayer provided some hope to the mighty maroon and white before the end of the first period when he converted a power play shot from the point into a goal for the Petes at 15:59.
The first period would end with the Generals up 3 goals.
The second frame was reflective of the first as the skaters donning red maintained the edge over the Lift Lock Lads. Ryan Stepien picked up his sixteenth of the season at the seven minute mark and Jordyn Ertel his first at 9:53, advancing the Gens lead to 6-1.
Calum Ritchie would spend two minutes in the penalty box at 15:15 for roughing but unfortunately the extra man didn’t prove useful to the Petes when Rolofs tallied his second of the evening shorthanded.
The second period would end with the Petes Captain Shawn Spearing and the Gens Daniel Michaud simultaneously heading to the penalty box for unsportmanlike conduct.
The third period proved a better effort from the Petes, as centreman Tucker Robertson tucked his nineteenth goal of the season past Patrick Leaver. Following a series of penalties on behalf of the General including a tripping by Lleyton Moore at 10:26, the Petes hit the scoreboard for third time in the game at 10:35 when DeZoete converted a pass to the slot into power play goal.
Sam Alfano provided the Petes a glimpse of a comeback at 12:50 when he picked up the hometown team’s fourth of the night, but an empty net goal by Dawson McKinney secured the Generals with a 8-4 win.
