Petes Pull Off a Commanding Victory over the 67’s
Joe Carroll, Chase Stillman, J.R. Avon, and Tucker Robertson found the score sheet, while Tye Austin made 24 saves to lead the Petes to their second win in as many nights.
The Petes had their feet under them to start this game and managed to carry some of last night’s winning momentum over to tonight with an identical lineup.
Four minutes into the first, 67’s forward Luca Pinelli went off for slashing. On the ensuing powerplay, Peterborough native Avon made a firm cross-ice pass to the tape of Carroll, who waited, winded up, and delivered a blistering slapshot over the glove hand of Will Cranley.

As the back half of the first winded down, Avon got his stick up high on a 67’s defender. After a lengthy delay where the officials assessed the play, it was ruled to be a high-sticking double minor. In the initial play, Ty Austin demonstrated that he was dialled in. He made a great read on a 67’s one-timer setup and displayed great athleticism to get across his crease and make the pad stop. From there, the maroon and white rallied together to kill off all four minutes.

Right as the 67’s powerplay ended, Robertson got loose and was headed for a partial break. 67’s D Teddy Sawyer closed in on Robertson and grabbed hold of his stick, which disrupted his ability to make a play. This sent the Petes to their second powerplay of the night for the final two minutes of the frame.
The Petes were unable to strike gold this time and carried their 1-0 lead into intermission.
A the 10:51 mark of the second period, Carroll got in hard on the forecheck and delivered a heavy hit on 67’s D Matthew Mayich. Mayich did not take kindly to the hit and retaliated with a slash to Carroll that got him up high and was ultimately called a high stick.
On the powerplay, Samuel Mayer received a pass at the top of the zone and slid it down to the right dot to Emmett Sproule. Sprole fired a wrist shot towards the bodies in front of the net, and the Petes got a lucky deflection off of Chase Stillman’s shin pad and between the legs of Cranley. Stillman’s 14th of the year improved the Petes lead to 2-0.

Soon after, the Petes found themselves down a man due to a roughing minor and did not experience the same successful results of the past 24 hours. The 67’s struck the post on Austin’s glove side but would have luck on their side later on the powerplay when Luca Pinelli buried a cross-crease pass past a sprawling Tye Austin.
The Petes lead was cut in half, with 2-1 being the game’s score after 40 minutes of play.
The Petes took an early third period penalty, killed it, and then dictated play for much of the third period.
Five minutes into the third, Nick Lardis entered the offensive zone, applied the breaks, and threaded a cross-ice pass over to a streaking Philadelphia Flyers prospect. Avon cradled the pass and fired a quick snapshot that beat Cranley clean through the five-hole.

The Petes were not done there. With four minutes remaining in the third, Tucker Robertson beat the 67’s D wide to the right and went in all alone on a breakaway. Robertson sold Cranley on a forehand shot, swiftly adjusted the puck to his backhand, and casually put away the backhand shot for his team-leading 25th goal of the season.
