Petes Fall to Otters in First Game of 2020
The Peterborough Petes offence were silenced as the Erie Otters handed the Petes their first loss in 2020, toppling the highly ranked Petes 5-0 on Thursday night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
The night started with the Petes welcoming over 150 Peterborough Minor Hockey Council (PMHC) players, coaches and executives to honour their longstanding partnership between the OHL Petes and the Minor AAA Petes.
Peterborough didn’t get off to a strong start as they found themselves down 2-0 early in the game. Otters’ Cameron Martin beat Hunter Jones to net the game’s first goal. The Otters continued to apply pressure against the CHL’s seventh overall Petes, which led to Kurtis Henry’s point shot goal to extended their lead 2-0.
The Petes may have been trailing on the scoreboard but were ahead in face offs in the square corners.

A hooking infraction against the Maroon and White in the second period against the Petes resulted in Otters’ Connor Lockhart extending the lead 3-0 when he beat Jones high blocker side.
Later in the period, the Otters continued to apply pressure and Jake Golden’s point shot put the Otters up 4-0 just before the second period expired.
The Lift Lock lads look to turn this around in the third despite being behind on the scoreboard and outshot.

Head Coach Rob Wilson swapped in Tye Austin between the pipes for the third period, and the Petes spent the majority of the first half in the offensive zone generating numerous chances.

Despite strong play in the third, it was a bad angle shot against Austin that extended Erie’s lead 5-0 with over four minutes left in the game.
Final shots were 31-27 in favour of Erie. Murphy, Lockhart, and Golden were named the game’s First Choice Haircutters first, second, and third stars of the game. The Mark’s Hardest Working Pete was Hudson Wilson.
