Petes Face McTavish For First Time This Week
The Peterborough Petes are fresh off a stretch where they won six of eight games, and they look to continue their late-season push into the playoffs. Their opponents are the Hamilton Bulldogs in a rare Tuesday game at the PMC before hitting the road to face the Oshawa Generals on Friday, and Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday.
A familiar face will make his return to Lock and Lansdowne – Mason McTavish, who has played a limited amount of games with the Bulldogs due to the Olympics, will be dressing in the visitors’ locker room for the first time. McTavish, drafted third overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, suited up for 62 games as a member of the Maroon and White across two and a half seasons.
Tucker Robertson leads the Petes in points versus Hamilton this season with 13 (7G-6A-13PTS), including two consecutive four-point performances. These teams meet and usually light the lamp often so it might be a barn burner.
The Petes make the trip to Oshawa a few days later to exact revenge for the narrow OT loss on Sunday. It was the first game under co-coaches Kurtis Foster and Mike Hedden since Oshawa relieved Todd Miller of head coaching duties on March. 12. Foster is a Peterborough alumnus who played 256 games across five seasons in the Petes uniform (‘97 – ‘02) and head coach Rob Wilson coached him overseas.
March 13 marked the first win against Peterborough for the first time since Jan. 30. Previously, the Electric City shut down Oshawa three straight times to win decisively 6-3 (Feb. 13), 3-1 (Feb. 24), and 6-2 (Mar. 5). Robertson’s 15 points (5g-10a-15p) in 11 games facing the Generals is enough to once again lead all Petes against an opponent. This Friday will be the final meeting of the season between these historic OHL rivals.
The schedule then turns to an uncommon foe in the Steelheads. Peterborough and Mississauga have met only four times during the 2021-22 campaign. A battle on Dec. 9 that needed overtime saw Mississauga snag one at the PMC. Then a trio of contests followed in January, including a whomping 7-4 victory in favour of the Petes on Jan. 21 at Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga. Petes leading scorer Emmett Sproule shines against Mississauga. The veteran leader has seven points in four games.
You won’t want to miss out on the chance to see McTavish return to the place he called home for two years.
