Carroll Picks up Thee Points in OT Loss Against Oshawa
Joe Carroll registered a three-point evening (2G, 1A) in Oshawa, but it wasn’t enough as the Generals secure a 4-3 victory over the Petes.
The maroon and white came out firing on all cylinders by putting tremendous pressure on the Generals, even outshooting the home team 6-1 in the first half of the opening period.
After being pressured by Avon in the offensive zone, David Jesus sent the puck over the glass, putting the Petes’ 8th-ranked powerplay unit on the ice. While on the man-advantage, Thomas Stewart tripped Avon as he entered enemy territory, giving the Petes a 5-on-3 chance.
Just as the first infraction expired, Samuel Mayer made a dive-saving desperation play to keep the puck in the Generals’ zone. Once he stood up, he sent a pass to Joe Carroll, who then sent a feed to Tucker Robertson. The 2022 NHL Draft prospect made no mistake and wired home his 33rd goal of the season, and his 9th PP goal of the year.

The second period was busier for both goaltenders as the goal light was lit four times, twice for each team. On the powerplay, Generals forward and Boston Bruins prospect Brett Harrison tied up the game 4:47 into the middle frame.
The Petes responded just under the halfway point of the period, after Sam Alfano forced a turnover, went hard to the net and Jonathan Melee fired in the rebound. Melee picked up his 10th goal of the season – 4th as a Pete – while Alfano picked up his 11th assist of the season.

On a 4-on-3 powerplay, Robertson returned the favour and sent a cross-ice pass to Joe Carroll, who one-timed the puck into the wide-open net, leaving no chance for Patrick Leaver. With Mayer picking up the secondary assist on the 3-1 goal, it marked the second point of the night for these three players.

Just before the period expired, Colorado Avalanche prospect Oskar Oluasson banked in the puck past Tye Austin to cut our lead by one.
The third period was much like the second with four goals being scored. Stuart Rolofs scored halfway through the period, but Emmett Sproule deflected the puck past Leaver with just over two minutes left to go in the game, with assists going to Carroll and Zanetti.

Edmonton Oilers prospect and Generals captain Ty Tullio scored the game-tying goal with just over 10 seconds left in the game and David Jesus scored in overtime to end the Generals’ seven-game losing streak.
The Petes are back in action this Tuesday, March 15 in a rare Tuesday night tilt inside the Peterborough Memorial Centre as they welcome back Mason McTavish and the Hamilton Bulldogs. Click here to get your tickets!
