Petes Edge Bulldogs in Extra Time on Teddy Bear Toss Night
For the third consecutive season, and for the second straight time in extra play, the Petes skated to victory on Teddy Bear Toss night. The 2018 version of the annual marquee game saw the maroon and white defeat the division rival Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3, and a donation of 1,693 teddy bears (and other assorted items) to the Country 105 and Energy 99.7 Miracle Toy Drive.

A quiet opening frame would be punctuated by a highly anticipated Petes goal from Adam Timleck which sent stuffed animals streaming to the ice. Nick Robertson and Semyon Der-Arguchintsev would see the assists to give Peterborough a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after the stuffed creatures had been cleared off the ice, Hamilton struck back to tie the game with a quick rocket from Navrin Mutter courtesy of Avery Hayes and Ben Garagan to mark the board 1-1.
Hamilton didn’t stop there as they surprised Hunter Jones with another puck behind him when Nicolas Mattinen notched the Bulldogs’ second of the night with an assist from Brandon Saigeon.
The clubs would head to their rooms with Hamilton taking a small lead on the shot clock 17-8 and a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard after 20 minutes.

Thirteen minutes would pass in the second before the Petes returned the game to an even 2-2 tie as the trio of Timleck, Robertson, and Der-Arguchintsev struck for the second time, providing a needed momentum boost to a slow moving period.

With five minutes remaining, the duo of Mattinen and Saigeon would mark their second of the evening to give Hamilton back the lead at a score of 3-2.
The Petes wouldn’t let the period come to an end with them falling behind as Liam Kirk, with the help of Brady Hinz and Pavel Gogolev, managed to slip one past Nick Donofrio, returning the match to a tie: 3-3.
The Petes finally took control of the shot clock after 40 minutes as the score remained tied at the second intermission.

A quiet final period pushed the game into overtime as the score remained tied, but in the end it would be Robertson who would break the even score on a breakaway with assistance from Matt McNamara to secure the 4-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Timleck, Mattinen, and Robertson were named the game’s first, second, and third stars, with Austin Osmanski named Mark’s Hardest Working Player of the Game.
The Petes beat the Bulldogs 36-34 on final shots.
