Petes Bit by Bulldogs in Game One
The Peterborough Petes got behind in the second period and could not rally from two-goal deficits as the Hamilton Bulldogs took Game One, 5-2. Brian Zanetti and Donovan McCoy were the Petes only goal scorers.
The Petes received the first power play opportunity due to a too many men call. Michael Simpson stood tall during a Hamilton barrage 10 minutes into regulation.
The Maroon and White laid clean body checks on the top-seeded Dogs on every chance they got, proving to get under Hamilton’s skin by drawing eight total PIMs.
Period one concluded scoreless with shots 10-7 favouring the Bulldogs.
Xhekaj broke the ice two minutes into the middle frame with a power play one-timer courtesy of defenceman Gavin White and Seattle Kraken third round 2021 selection Ryan Winterton. Former Pete Mason McTavish extended Hamilton’s lead at 4:20 assisted by Winterton.
Then, less than three minutes later, rookie Brenden Anderson added another on the board, pushing Hamilton’s lead to 3-0 with 12:57 remaining in the second period.
The Petes started a counter-attack and Zanetti deflected a blast from second-year centre J.R. Avon. Overager Emmett Sproule recorded the secondary assist.

Bulldogs’ leading scorer Logan Morrison padded Hamilton’s lead with a goal late in the period to make the score 4-1. He was assisted by captain Colton Kammerer and veteran Avery Hayes on the power play.
Peterborough scored early in the third period off the stick of McCoy. McCoy waisted the puck through an unsuspecting Costantini from the corner to trim the Petes’ deficit to two goals behind.
