Petes Acquire Defenceman Cam Gauvreau and Two Picks From Saginaw Spirit
General Manager Michael Oke announced today that the Petes have acquired defenceman Cam Gauvreau, Saginaw’s fourth round pick in 2023, and Windsor’s third round pick in 2025 in exchange for James Guo and Peterborough’s sixth round pick in 2023.
Gauvreau, a 2003-born defenceman from Hamilton, ON, was originally drafted by the North Bay Battalion in the 10th round, 191st overall, in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. A 6’02”, 190lbs, shutdown defenceman, Gauvreau has played 72 games over his OHL career, recording one goal and eight assists, along with 113 PIMS. Earlier this season, Gauvreau was acquired by the Saginaw Spirit from the Battalion in a four-player deal.
“We’re excited to welcome a player of Cam’s character and ability to Peterborough,” noted Oke. “He is a hard-working defenceman who will add a competitive edge to our blueline, while also providing leadership support on and off the ice.”
Guo, a 2005-born defenceman from Woodbridge, ON, was originally selected by the Peterborough Petes in the fourth round, 74th overall, in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. In 81 career games with the Petes, Guo has recorded two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.
“I’d like to thank James for his ongoing commitment to Petes hockey during the past two seasons,” added Oke. “We wish him the best of luck in Saginaw as he takes the next steps in his hockey development.”
The Petes next game is Thursday, January 12th against the Sarnia Sting. Owen Beck and Cam Gauvreau will make their Petes debut and Brennan Othmann will make his return from the World Juniors. You can get tickets by clicking here.
