Max Grondin Commits to the University of Ottawa This Fall
General Manager Michael Oke announced today that forward Max Grondin has committed to the Gee-Gees men’s varsity hockey program at the University of Ottawa, this fall.
“This is a great opportunity for Max,” says GM Oke. “He gets a chance to continue to play hockey at a high level and pursue his academic studies with the education package he earned while playing in the Ontario Hockey League.”
Grondin was drafted in the second round, 37th overall by the Saginaw Spirit in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. Since being acquired by the Petes halfway through the 2018-19 season, Grondin has collected 49 points (24 goals, 25 assists) in 109 games with the maroon and white. Last season, the Hearst, Ontario native set a career-high record, tallying 13 goals, 20 assists and 33 points across 60 games.
“I’m excited to play at the University of Ottawa,” Grondin expressed. “It’s important for me to get a degree and although I have committed to the Gee-Gees, I am waiting for my acceptance letters for the bio-medical program and engineering.”
During the 2019-20 season, the Gee-Gee’s skated to a 17-11-0 record in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), collecting 34 points to finish third in the East Division.
Grondin joins John Parker-Jones and Matt McNamara as the latest Petes to pursue their education for the 2021-22 scholastic year.
