After another close loss at home last night at the hands of the Mississauga Steelheads, the Peterborough Petes traveled to the Nation’s Capital for a Friday night battle with the Ottawa 67’s. The Petes would be looking to make history on the night, as a win would see them improve to 4-0 this season on the road against the 67’s, something that has never been done by the Maroon and White. Kanata native Zach Bowen would get the nod once again in his hometown, looking to stay undefeated at TD Place in his career.
It was a tough start once again for the Petes. Just 48 seconds into the game, Ottawa scored on a rebound to take an early 1-0 lead at home. The 67’s went on to score two more goals in the period, taking a commanding 3-0 lead by the 12:25 mark. Despite the three goals allowed, Zach Bowen came up big on multiple occasions, making a number of highlight reel stops. After one, Bowen stopped 17/20 to keep the score at 3-0 heading into the break.
The Petes would fight back early in the second and get on the board on a power play. Two minutes into the period, Jonathan Melee fired a shot that deflected off of Chase Lefebvre and in. The Petes momentum was short lived as Ottawa would retake their three goal lead at the 4:12 mark on a goal by Braeden Kressler. Late in the period, former Pete Sam Mayer scored for Ottawa to make it 5-1 heading into the final frame.
Peterborough would not be able to get anything going in the final 20, with Ottawa holding them to just the one goal. The 67’s added one more in the period and won the game by a score of 6-1.
Chase Lefebvre scored the lone goal for the Petes, while Jonathan Melee and Tommy Purdeller had an assist each.
The Petes are back in action on Sunday, February 11, when they travel to Brantford to take on the Brantford Bulldogs. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Brantford Civic Centre. Fans can see the game at the Official Road Game Watch Party at Shoeless Joe’s Peterborough. The game will also be broadcasted on YourTV Peterborough and Freq 90.5.
