Cadorin Scores First OHL Goal in Home Loss to Oshawa
It was the eighth and final meeting of the season for the biggest rivalry in Junior Hockey as the Petes hosted the Oshawa Generals at the PMC on Thursday night. The game was the 10th Talk Today event in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, presented by Grain Farmers of Ontario and Syngenta Canada. Hockey Hall of Famer and former Pete Chris Pronger was in attendance at the game, taking part in the ceremonial puck drop.
It was a forgettable opening five minutes for Peterborough, giving up two goals to the visiting Generals. Oshawa looked to be in full control early, with the Petes struggling to find their feet. That would change at the 7:08 mark when Peterborough would break through. After breaking into the zone, Chase Lefebvre fired a puck off of the pad of Generals goaltender Noah Bender. The rebound came right to Joseph Cadorin, who buried it to cut Oshawa’s lead in half. The goal would be Cadorin’s first in the OHL. After the goal, Liam Sztuska would shut the door, holding Oshawa to a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The Generals would add to their lead early in the second after a shot deflected off of a Petes stick and past Sztuska. The goal would send a spark through the Petes. Five minutes later, Nico Addy fired a beautiful shot past Bender to put Peterborough within one once again. After two, Generals would hold onto their one-goal lead.
Peterborough came out firing in the third, desperate for an equalizer. That tying goal would come early in the frame. Just over two minutes in, Caden Taylor scored on a beautiful one-timer to make it 3-3. Unfortunately for the Petes, they would be unable to capitalize on the momentum. On a late Oshawa power play, the Generals would take the lead, adding two more goals afterwards (including an empty netter) to win the game 6-3.
Chase Lefebvre and Tommy Purdeller led the way for the Petes with two assists each, while Joseph Cadorin scored his first OHL goal. Nico Addy and Caden Taylor rounded out the scoring with a goal each, as Carson Cameron and Ryder McIntyre both picked up an assist. Liam Sztuska stopped 35/40 in the loss.
The Petes are back in action for the 15th Annual Pink in the Rink game when they host the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday, February 3. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC.
