Petes Mourn the Loss of Alumnus Mark Kirton
The Peterborough Petes are very saddened to learn about the passing of alumnus Mark Kirton following a battle with ALS.
Mark played for the Petes from 1975-78, winning an OHL Championship and finishing 2nd in the 1978 Memorial Cup. After his time in Peterborough, Mark would go on to play in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Vancouver Canucks.
In 2018, Kirton was diagnosed with ALS. Since then, he has become a prominent figure in ALS awareness working with ALS Canada and ALS Action Canada. In 2022, the The Leafs Alumni Association named Kirton the recipient of the Carl Brewer Memorial Award in recognition of his work on ALS awareness.
Our thoughts are with Mark’s family and friends during this difficult time.
