Mighty Maroon & White Continue to Roll in Round Two
For the first time since April 1, 2014, the Petes visited the Rogers K-Rock Centre for a playoff game against the Kingston Frontenacs. The score was different, but the result was the same on Tuesday night in this year’s game three, as the Petes scored first and Dylan Wells did the rest in a 3-1 road win.
It took just 11 seconds for Adam Timleck to open the scoring in this game, walking over the blue line and scoring from Logan DeNoble and Alex Black to put his team ahead on the road. After a lengthy review – the first of two long offside reviews on the evening – the goal was allowed.
The one disadvantage of the long review was that the Petes couldn’t gain any momentum from their early goal, and Kingston went on to play their best period of the series. Dylan Wells showed that he was ready to play another strong game in goal, though, and despite Kingston’s 10-5 shot lead after the first 20 minutes, the Petes held their 1-0 lead.
In the second period, the narrative was the same as the home team, who again dominated in chances and shots, but once again it was the Petes who found the back of the net. First, Semyon Der-Arguchintsev doubled the Peterborough lead with a goal from in close assisted by Steve Lorentz and Matt Spencer.
The lead was tripled late in the period as Brandon Prophet and Lorentz set up Alex Black for his second playoff goal in two games, and second point of the night, putting the Petes ahead 3-0.
The Frontenacs put the puck in Wells’ net for the first time with just 8 seconds left in the middle stanza, but the play was called back on an offside call, sending the teams to the intermission with Peterborough up 3-0 and Kingston ahead 25-11 in shots.
In the final period, the game went back and forth but the Fronts finally beat Wells to cut Peterborough’s lead to 3-1 as Linus Nyman netted from Jason Robertson and Eemeli Rasanen with six minutes to play. It was too little, too late, though, as Wells and the Petes navigated through the Kingston chances for a 3-1 win.
Wells, Lorentz, and Nyman were named first, second, and third stars, and the final shots on goal were 34-17 for the Fronts.
Game four of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final will take place in Kingston at the Rogers K-Rock Centre on Thursday. Tickets are still available for the fan bus trip by calling Julia at (705) 977-0127, or filling out the form below. If a game five is needed, it will be played on Saturday, April 15 at 7:05pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
