Roobroeck sets Niagara IceDogs’ single season rookie points record
Ryan Roobroeck opened Friday’s scoring against Mississauga with his 28th goal of the season, setting a new Niagara IceDogs single season rookie points record in the process.
With the goal, Roobroeck surpassed Akil Thomas’ 2016-17 mark of 48 points, etching his name into Niagara’s record book once again as the 16-year-old has points in eight of his last 10 games.
Hailing from London, Ont., Roobroeck was selected by the IceDogs with the second overall pick of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program. The 6-foot-2, 195Ib. left-wing isn’t eligible for the NHL Draft until 2026.
Roobroeck competed at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in the fall, recording four points (3-1–4) over seven games for Team Canada Red. His 28 goals are also a Niagara IceDogs rookie mark.
