Federkow Honoured, IceDogs Lose Final Game of the Season
NIAGARA, ON – The IceDogs close out the season honouring St. Catharines native and overage player, Connor Federkow in front of 5,048 fans at the Meridian Centre.
Final Score: SBY 9 – NIA 2
Starting Goaltenders: Marcus Vandenberg (Sudbury) – Owen Flores (Niagara)
After a beautiful ceremony honouring the IceDogs overage, Connor Federkow, both teams would come out strong out the gates. The Wolves were able to get on the board early via Quentin Musty thanks to a jaw-dropping pass from David Goyette. The IceDogs would have a response as the period entered the second half. It would be an Urban Podrekar point shot that would beat Marcus Vandenberg clean to even this one up. Ryan Roobroeck would pick up an assist on the goal, marking his 50th point of the season. They weren’t done there as Roobroeck would once again find himself in the action. This time finding Mathieu Paris out front as Paris buried it for his 11th of the season and the IceDogs lead.
The game would be flipped upside down in the middle frame as the Wolves scored four straight goals to make it a 5-2 game. The IceDogs got into some penatly trouble that resulted in som lengthy Sudbury powerplays. The Wolves big guns would lead the way as David Goyette had three points in the period, while also scoring his 40th of the season. Quentin Musty would add two assists to hit the century mark in points and Kocha Delic would score twice to hit the 30 goal mark.
The Wolves would tack on more in the final frame to seal the win. An emotional moment following the game as both teams congratulated Connor Federkow following his final game in the OHL. A contingent of 80 Federkow fans started a Federkow chant as he made is way over to their corner and celebrated with them.
