IceDogs Win Another OT Thriller
NIAGARA, ON – You may want to call this year’s edition of the Niagara IceDogs – the comeback kids.
Niagara recorded another come from behind victory, its second straight on home ice, 4-3 in overtime against the Kingston Frontencas.
Trailing 3-1 midway through the third period, Ethan Czata would score his second goal of the game to cut the Kingston lead to one, and then with 2:55 left in regulation time Ryan Roobroeck would convert a nifty three-way passing play from Alex Assadourian and Braidy Wassilyn to tie the game at three.
Enter overtime, and Roobroeck again – this time for the game-winner and seventh goal of the season.
The second year forward said “there’s never quit in this team, we always believe,” when being interviewed after the game.
IceDogs Head Coach Ben Boudreau agreed with Roobroeck’s comments.
“I do believe that as well, and winning really helps that mindset,” Boudreau said.
Rookie forward Wassilyn may have had his best game in a Niagara uniform, creating numerous scoring opportunities.
“Wassilyn may be in his own head when it comes to finish, but he is creating his own chances which is a really good sign,” said Boudreau.
Owen Flores, back between the pipes for the IceDogs, kept his perfect record intact making 24 saves to improve to (5-0) on the campaign.
Flores has yet to allow more than three goals in a single game this season.
NIagara, now (7-2) and first overall in the OHL Eastern Conference, hosts Oshawa Thursday night.
Tickets are available through the Niagara IceDogs or Meridian Centre Box Office.
