IceDogs Beat Generals 2-0
The Niagara IceDogs defeated the Oshawa Generals 2-0 Saturday night in the Meridian Centre
The first half of period one consisted of highly competitive play from both teams. The game was scoreless up until just under halfway through the game at 10:32 when IceDogs’ defenseman Rodwin Dionicio scored the first goal of the game off of a wrist shot from the point, assisted by Ethan Sims and Cameron Snow.
The IceDogs went on a powerplay late into the first period in which they set up a clean organized cycle game. However, after some great saves, the IceDogs could not seem to get another one past Generals’ netminder Matthew Sbrocca before the end of the first period.
Six minutes into the second period, IceDogs Alec Leonard gets caught on a tripping penalty which get killed off with the help of goaltender Tucker Tynan who made some spectacular saves to prevent the equalizer. Late into the second period, IceDogs Aidan Castle rushes on a breakaway but a nice defensive stick check by the Generals’ defenseman prevents a high danger scoring chance which keeps the game 1-0 at the end of two.
The majority of the third period consisted of back and forth rushing chances featuring plenty of odd-man rushes; but both goaltenders stood their ground. In need of a goal, the Generals take an unfortunate delay of game penalty at a crucial time 9:28 into the third period but end up killing it off. The Generals, still looking for an equalizer goal, pull their goalie to get the extra attacker, However, IceDogs Cameron Snow nets a cross-ice empty netter to make it 2-0 at 1:35.
