10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE THIS AFTERNOON’S GAME

1) Today’s game marks the season opener for the Niagara IceDogs, and the home opener for the Mississauga Steelheads, who lost their season opener against the 67s in Ottawa in overtime.
2) Last season, their season series was split at 3 wins each, in their respect home rinks.
3) Recently named IceDogs Captain Jones put up career high point totals last season, with 30 goals, 49 assists, and 79 points (29 more points than the 2016-2017 season).
4) Jones finished the season ranking 4th in IceDogs scoring with 79 points last season, compared to the previous season (2016-2017) where he ranked 3rd with 50 points.
5) In the 2017-2018 season, Jones had 20 multi-point games, including one 5-point game (6-5 OT win vs Sarnia on Jan. 26), one 4-point game (6-5 OT loss @ Sudbury on Nov. 3), eight 3-point games, and ten 2-point games. Midway through the season, he had a 12-game point-streak.
6) Last season, the IceDogs had a 18.7% efficient road powerplay (ranking 10th), and a penalty kill with 82.0% efficiency on the road (ranking 6th).
7) The Mississauga Steelheads’ home power play ranked 1st at 29.8%, while their home penalty kill was ranked 4th at 85.4%, last season.
8) In 2017-2018, Steelheads’ forward, Tippett, collected 75 points (36 goals, 39 assists), the same as the 2016-2017 season (44 goals, 31 assists), despite playing in 9 fewer games.
9) Last season, the IceDogs and Steelheads had similar goals for (240 – NIA, 251 – MISS), while the IceDogs allowed 15 fewer goals (235 – NIA, 250).
10) In the 2017-2018 season, the IceDogs finished the season with 80 points (35-23-7-3), and the Steelheads finished with 69 (33-32-1-2).
