GAME RECAP : ‘Dogs pick up a point in 3-2 OT loss in London
The Niagara IceDogs hit the road tonight to take on the Knights in London, starting a 2 game roadtrip. After defeating the Knights 4-2 in November, the ‘Dogs were hoping to finish off the season series against the Knights with a win.
Tonight’s game featured the return of Sam Miletic and Adrian Carbonara to London, and Maksimov’s return to the lineup. The first period got off to a even fast paced start, but it was the Knights who got on the board first. Stephen Dhillon made some great saves early in the game as the Knights came out hot, but he stayed calm, cool, and collected to contain London. The Knights carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period. The 2nd period was dominated much by the ‘Dogs, but it wasn’t until the 17 minute mark of the period that they found their way onto the scoresheet. Elijah Roberts carried the puck from end to end and beat Raaymakers’ glove side and high to tie the game up at 1! Roberts’ goal was unassisted. Despite continuing their strong play defensively into the third period, the Knights beat Dhillon five-hole early in the final frame to regain their 1 goal lead. But! During a period of extended pressure for the ‘Dogs, Sam Miletic picked up the puck below the goal line and made a great pass the Akil Thomas. Thomas shot the puck from the blueline the bounced off Raaymakers and right to Matthew Philip, who tied the game up at 2!
60 minutes wasn’t enough in London tonight, but the ‘Dogs were guaranteed at least one point to set themselves apart from the Colts for first in the Central Division. In overtime, Roberts went the distance down the ice again, but this time the Knights goaltender made the glove save. Going the other way, Stephen Dhillon mishandled a rebound and the Knights capitalized to win the game 3-2.
The IceDogs are back in action tomorrow night in Barrie as they go to work against the Colts.
