A Look Back at the 2021 OHL Draft
As we approach the 2022 OHL Priority Selection Draft that takes place April 29th and 30th, we take a look back at the IceDogs 2021 draft picks and their first season with the Dogs.
22nd Overall – Juan Copeland, Left Wing
The 5’11 left-winger from Michigan played the 2019-20 season with the Detroit HoneyBaked U15 AAA, where he scored 13 goals (23 points) in 17 games.
In his first season with the IceDogs, Copeland played 58 games, and recorded 12 goals and 10 assists.
23rd Overall – Joey Costanzo, Goaltender
The 6’00 goaltender played the 2019-20 season with the Toronto Marlboros. He played his last GTHL game with the Marlboros against the Niagara IceDogs 2020 2nd overall pick, Pano Fimis.
Costanzo played 17 games with the IceDogs in the 2021-22 season. he recorded a 0.879 save percentage. As well as winning gold in the Capital City Challenge (details).
Costanzo was also named OHL goaltender of the week (details), and CHL team of the week (details) in March.
39th Overall – Declan Waddick, Centreman
In 36 games with the Sun County Alliance U15/16, Waddick scored 34 goals and finished with 56 points.
In his first season with the IceDogs, Waddick played 57 games, and tallied 8 goals, 9 assists.
45th Overall – Andrew Wycisk, Defenceman
The 5’09 right shot defenceman played the 2019-20 season with the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA.
Wycisk has played 59 games with the IceDogs, with 2 goals and 5 assists.
105th Overall – Cole Bishop, Left Wing
Bishop, a Tennessee native, played an abridged 2020-21 season with the Detroit Honeybaked 15s program alongside IceDogs 2nd round selection Juan Copeland.
Bishop officially signed with the IceDogs at the end of the 21-22 season, on April 2nd.
The IceDogs will have the 4th overall pick in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection draft, which begins tomorrow at 7p.m.
