Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy Nominee – Landon Cato

The Niagara IceDogs would like to recognize Landon Cato’s accomplishment as a nominee for the 2021-22 Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the OHL Humanitarian of the Year.

Cato has been a great role model for the community of Niagara since joining the team in 2019-2020. He has consistently been a leader for off-ice appearances and is always putting smiles on young fans faces. Whenever a fan invites him out to events, he always does his best to attend. He’s been apart of birthday parties, helped at practices, and has also went to watch some play! Cato recognizes the tremendous support from fans in our region, and loves to give that support back. He does a lot behind the scenes quietly, but his efforts don’t go unnoticed. After the season was over and all players went home, Cato heard of a fan being bullied. Without hesitation, Cato reached out to organize an appearance at the school to discuss the effects of bullying.

During the summer, Cato can often be found at ballhockey.com, helping with youth ball hockey practices/camps, and building friendships with the kids. Outside of his presence at the ball hockey rink, he has also shown his support by sponsoring two kids to play. Many of these kids have came to IceDogs games during the season, and you can see the impact Cato has made when they ask to see “Coach Landon.”

While these are just some activities that come to mind when thinking of Landon, there are several other tremendous efforts he does for the community and fans of Niagara.
