Devils Sign Prospects Blake Speers, Colton White

The Devils have signed forward Blake Speers and defenseman Colton White to three-year entry-level contracts. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
Speers, 19, spent the last three seasons with Sault Ste. Marie (OHL), where he led the Greyhounds in scoring with career highs in all offensive categories (26g-48a-74pts), while dressing in all of the club’s 68 games. He was named as team captain last season and led the team (tie) with six goals (10pts) in 12 OHL Playoff games. Speers was named OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 20, where he netted three goals and had five assists for eight points in three games. Speers also served the Greyhounds as an alternate captain in the 2014-15 season.
The 5-11, 185lb. forward most recently skated for the Devils at the 2016 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, NY where he had three goals and one assist over two games. The Sault Ste. Marie native has OHL career totals of 69 goals, 112 assists for 181 points and 66 penalty minutes in 187 games. Speers also played in the CHL Top Prospects Game (2015) and was named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team (2014). He and current Devils’ prospect, Colton White, are teammates on the Greyhounds. Speers previously played for the Soo Thunder (NOBHL) where he led the league in goals (86), assists (81) and points (167) and was honored as the league’s Most Valuable Player. Speers was drafted by New Jersey in the third round, 67th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft.
White, 19, spent the last three seasons with Sault Ste. Marie (OHL), where he led the Greyhounds’ defensemen with a career high nine goals and had career highs with 26 assists and 35 points while dressing in all of the club’s 68 games. He was named as an alternate captain last season and scored one goal and two assists in 12 OHL Playoff games.
The 6-1, 185lb. defenseman most recently skated in two exhibition games for the Devils at the 2016 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, NY. The London, Ont. native has OHL regular-season career totals of 15 goals, 47 assists for 62 points and 45 penalty minutes in 192 games. He is teammates on Sault Ste. Marie with Devils’ prospect Blake Speers. White was drafted by New Jersey in the fourth round, 97th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft.
