We’ve made it, Hounds fans! The wait is finally over as the 2016-17 OHL regular season kicks off this Friday September 23. We’re excited to welcome the best fans in the league back to the Essar Centre for another great year of Soo Greyhounds hockey. It’s an exciting time to be a hockey fan in Sault Ste. Marie as we celebrate 45 years of hockey tradition in this great city!

As Friday draws near, here is some information on what is happening this week in Hounds nation.

Opening Weekend Street Party
Friday September 23 – Queen Street (Elgin to Dennis) – 5 to 7 PM
To celebrate 45 years of hockey tradition in Sault Ste. Marie, the Greyhounds are excited to have an Opening Weekend Street Party on Friday September 23 from 5-7PM. Come down to Queen street, between Elgin and Dennis, to enjoy live music, food, beverages, and tons of giveaways! Items being given away include Greyhound merchandise, a Tony DeAngelo game used stick, World U17 Hockey Challenge tickets, and a pair of 2016-17 Soo Greyhounds Season Tickets. Entrance into these promotional giveaways is free of charge, with ballots available at numerous Downtown Association businesses this week. The participating businesses are as follows:

In conjunction with the Opening Weekend Street Party, the Downtown Association will be hosting a 3on3 Ball Hockey Tournament on Queen Street (from 4-7PM). The tournament is open to kids between the ages of 6-14, with three divisions to separate the groups. Registration is available, with a $15/team fee required to sign up. Come down to Queen Street and enjoy these great festivities before the Greyhounds kick off the 2016-17 OHL season against the Windsor Spitfires! Both Bruce street and Dennis street will remain open, but we encourage fans to arrive early. Friday September 23 vs Windsor Spitfires

The Greyhounds kick off the commemorative 45^th Anniversary season Friday as the Windsor Spitfires travel to Sault Ste. Marie! Come down and enjoy the Opening Weekend Street Party, happening outside the Essar Centre on Queen Street. Then come in and watch as the Hounds battle the 2017 Memorial Cup hosts to kick off the year. After a very competitive season series last year, this is guaranteed to be a great night of season opening hockey!

Saturday September 24 vs Oshawa Generals
7:07PM – Essar Centre – Tickets Available (CLICK HERE)
The Greyhounds conclude #OHLOpeningWeek on Saturday September 24 as we host the Oshawa Generals at the Essar Centre. This will be the Generals only trip to Sault Ste. Marie during the regular season. In two games against the Generals last season, the Greyhounds were able to pick up a pair of wins against the 2015-16 Memorial Cup Champions. The Hounds will be looking to shut down Team Canada hopeful Mitch Vande Sompel and the Oshawa Generals on home ice.

Individual Game Tickets
Available NOW for the 2016-17 season
Individual game tickets for every 2016-17 Soo Greyhounds home game are available NOW! Tickets can be purchased directly at the Essar Centre Box Office on Monday – Friday between 10AM-5:30PM, and on Saturday from 10AM-2PM. Thinking of attending multiple games this season? Voucher packs are back for the 2016-17 season! Enjoy the flexibility of picking the games you’d like to attend for a discounted price. The Hound Pound will be opening early on Friday for #OHLOpeningWeek. The store will be opening at 5PM on Friday September 23. Make sure to stop by and check out the new items available for the 2016-17 season!
