Nathan Torchia Commits to the Oshawa Generals
August 8th, 2016
Earlier today goaltender Nathan Torchia officially committed to the Oshawa Generals.
Nathan was selected by the Generals during the 5th round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection Draft. He spent last season with the Waterloo Wolves Minor Midget AAA, where he collected 19 wins in 35 games played. He also posted a very strong .916 save percentage and 2.97 goals against average.
This summer Nathan participated in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp. This camp features the top goaltending talent in all of Canada and Nathan was 1 of 16 Under-17 goalies to participate in the camp. Nathan was invited back for the Under-17 Team Canada Training Camp alongside fellow Generals Danil Antropov, Serron Noel and Will Ennis.
“This is another exciting day for the Generals organization. You can never have too much depth at this position and we are confident that we have added another great goaltender to the organization.” Said Roger Hunt, Vice President and General Manager of the Oshawa Generals
Nathan’s father Mike Torchia is no stranger to success in the OHL. Mike spent 4 seasons with the Kitchener Rangers where he won 1990 Memorial Cup Most Outstanding Goalie but fell short in the finals against the Oshawa Generals. The following season Mike would win OHL Goaltender of the Year and was later drafted to the Minnesota North Stars. Nathan looks to follow in his Father’s footsteps with a long line of success in the OHL.
