What formal/personal relationship did you have with hockey and how did it lead you to scouting?
- Coached my son through minor hockey and continued to watch him progress from minor hockey, junior and then on to professional hockey.
- I wanted to stay involved in the game. I enjoy evaluating talent and I am thrilled when I find hard working players that are not the most talented now, however when they are given a chance exceed expectations
- Â I was able to go through the process as a parent and now as a scout I enjoy sharing my experiences and knowledge with prospects and their families
Favourite rink to travel to for scouting?
- Any rink that is older and has history (St. Mikes, Galt, Collingwood, Aurora)
- Love walking into a rink and seeing pictures of former minor hockey players that have gone on to professional hockey and banners of teams from the past that proudly display the history of that rink. There are very few of these rinks left
- My favorite new rink is the Barrie Molson Centre. Hometown rink with many good memories
Typical week in your professional life at the height of hockey season?
- Go on rink get and prepare my schedule for the week. Print out all my game night line ups. Try to fit in 2-3 games a week and cover all major tournaments in my area. Â Work during the day, change at the office and head to a cold rink for a couple of hot dogs and a pop. Search for the next hidden gem and try not to get mustard on my jacket or shirt. Â Drive home late, complete my player evaluations get to bed around midnight and start all over again the next day
