Game Recap: Oshawa 0, Kingston 6
The Oshawa Generals season came to an end tonight, falling by a 6-0 score to give the Kingston Frontenacs a 4-1 series win.
1st Period
The first line of Anthony Cirelli, Kenny Huether, and Joe Manchurek would force a scoring opportunity less than a minute into the game when Huether broke in 2-on-1 with Cirelli, but Kingston goaltender Jeremy Helvig shut the door on the initial shot as well as the rebound.
Kingston’s top line would come down and generate a chance of their own, but Jalen Smereck blocked a Spencer Watson to deny the Frontenacs of a scoring opportunity.
Oshawa would get the games first power play when Cody Caron was penalized for boarding on Sam Harding at the 17:29 mark of the opening period. About 40 seconds into the man advantage, Cirelli would split the defensemen before being hooked up, summoning a penalty shot from the referee. Helvig would deny the Generals captain, however, shutting the door as Cirelli looked to beat him down low. The Generals would remain on the power play for 1:19, but could not solve the Frontenacs.
A few minutes following the penalty, the Generals would pick up their first when Smereck was penalized for holding on Warren Foegele in the Oshawa zone. Cirelli would get another breakaway chance on a Kingston turn over, but he could not beat Helvig. The Generals would kill the penalty as the game remained scoreless with 13 minutes remaining in the period.
The Frontenacs would open the score with 6:49 left in the period when a Robertson shot deflected off Ryan Verbeek in front of Brodeur. Nathan Billitier picked up the second assist on the games first goal.
Liam Murray would pick up a hooking penalty shortly after the Kingston goal, sending the Generals to their second power play of the game. Nothing would come of the man advantage as the Generals could not generate any scoring chances.
Each team would trade scoring chances in the final five-minutes of the period as the Frontenacs took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
2nd Period
One minute into the period the Frontenacs would find themselves on the power play when Smereck was called for holding. The Generals would get the best scoring chance during the two minutes when Manchurek took advantage of a Watson turnover, but his shot rang off the crossbar after beating Helvig.
With about 13 minutes left in the period, Matt Latin would pick up an interference penalty to give the Frontenacs their third man advantage of the game. Halfway through the penalty, Manchurek would get his stick caught up in the skates of Foegele to create a 5-on-3 for Kingston. Just 10 seconds into the power play Stephen Desrocher would hammer home a shot that Spencer Watson teed up for the Frontenacs defenseman. Michael Dal Colle added a helper on the power play goal.
Kingston would add another goal on the power play when Lawson Crouse buried his rebound past Brodeur. Dal Colle and Watson added their second assists on the Frontenacs third tally of the game.
Shortly after the Frontenacs extended their lead to three, Murray would pick up his second penalty of the game on a holding penalty against Mitchell Vande Sompel. Kingston would get a pair of shorthanded scoring chances, but Brodeur shut the door. Jack Studnicka would get a glorious chance out front of Helvig, but could not hit the net as the penalty came to an end.
The Frontenacs would get their fifth man-advantage of the game when Kyle MacLean was penalized for hooking on Watson with just over seven minutes to play in the period. Brodeur would come up with a huge save on Crouse to keep the Generals within three as they were able to kill off the MacLean penalty.
With a little over three minutes to play in the second, the Frontenacs would get on the board again when Watson beat Brodeur after picking up a rebound in front of the Oshawa goal. Murray and Dal Colle picked up assists on the goal, chasing Brodeur from the game in favour of Justin Nichols.
Just seven seconds after Nichols came into the game, and Foegele would beat the Generals goalie five-hole to extend the Kingston lead to 5-0. Watson added the lone helper on the goal as the Frontenacs carried a big lead into the third period.
3rd Period
About five minutes into the period the Frontenacs would get on the board again when Foegele was let with a little room in front and was able to beat Nichols with a good wrist shot. Dal Colle and Watson picked up the assists on the goal.
The Generals would pick up a power play shortly after the midway point of the period when Kingston was penalized for too-many-men, but nothing would come of the man advantage.
Kingston would shut the Generals out the rest of the way to end the series with a decisive 6-0 victory.
