The Oshawa Generals do more than just provide a young hockey player with a place to excel as a player – they also provide him with all the tools he needs to succeed in the classroom.
When a player joins the Oshawa Generals family, it’s made clear to him that while hockey is important, getting an education in the classroom will help him excel during and after his career in hockey.
We expect all of our players to be in school, and do everything we can to ensure they get a quality education during their time in the OHL. A strong educational foundation is the base of being a successful member of the Oshawa Generals.
Educational Benefits
Players drafted into the Generals organization have all of their school costs covered while they are playing in the Ontario Hockey League, or in the Generals system. Should they not sign a professional contract in hockey, they will have their costs of getting a post-secondary education paid for by the club once their junior hockey careers are over.
The Generals make sure all of their players are registered in school and those that are in high school all attend the same school. The club also has an Educational Consultant available to assist them with any schooling needs, and the team does everything it can to assists players in keeping up with their studies off the ice.
The OHL schedule is now nearly 90 percent on the weekend and Oshawa’s travel schedule is an excellent one, with only a few overnight trips in the entire season. Practices are scheduled after school hours during the week.
Education should be a priority in everyone’s life and that includes when a player is in the OHL. We intend to make sure that’s the case with the Generals Organization.
