Three Generals earn invites to NHL development camps
Oshawa, Ont., – While no Oshawa General was drafted at the 2022 NHL Draft, three Generals found their names on NHL development camp rosters – one as a prospect and two via invitation.
Drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 3rd round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Brett Harrison will be at Bruins Development Camp from Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15, at Warrior Arena. Harrison was taken with the 85th overall pick and returned to Oshawa for the 2021-2022 season following Boston’s rookie camp. Upon his return, Harrison proved the Bruins made the right decision in drafting him, putting up career-high numbers in every offensive category, nearly doubling his point total from his rookie season. Finishing second in team scoring, the Dorchester, Ont., native scored 27 goals and added 34 assists, trailing only Ty Tullio for the point lead. Harrison also scored 12 powerplay goals. Attending his second camp with the Bruins, Harrison will be sure to use this opportunity to continue showcasing his skills at an NHL level – potentially earning him an entry-level contract.
Undrafted in 2020, Lleyton Moore never let that discourage him from turning heads of those around the OHL but also at a pro-level. Moore will be attending his second NHL camp this week, flying to Arizona for the Coyotes’ prospect development camp running through July 10-15 with on-ice sessions starting Monday, July 11, at Ice Den Scottsdale. In his 3rd OHL season, Moore proved once again he is one of the top offensive blueliners in the OHL, putting up 54 points in 67 games, good for third in team scoring. Known around Oshawa as the team’s quarterback, 49 of his 54 points were assists. His career-high totals were good enough to place him in the top-10 of defenceman scoring in the league.
Ranked 16th among North American goalies by NHL Central Scouting, Patrick Leaver was a favourite by GensNation to be taken in this year’s NHL draft but unfortunately, no team called his name. Despite not hearing his name, the bad news stopped there as Leaver earned an invite to the Calgary Flames development camp, beginning on-ice on Tuesday, July 12th at 7 Chiefs Sportsplex. Leaver had a more than impressive rookie season in the OHL, finishing the 2021-2022 season with a record of 22-19-2 and cemented himself as the starting goalie at the beginning of the season. He finished the regular season with a 3.20 GAA, 0.908 save percentage, and two shutouts. Already touted as one of the top goalies in the OHL for the 2022-2023 season, Leaver with undoubtedly use this NHL camp experience to grow his game on and off the ice.
Also at NHL Development camps is former captain, Ty Tullio, attending with the Edmonton Oilers. Tullio signed his entry-level deal with the Oilers earlier this season.
