Round Two Preview: Oshawa meets Ottawa for Round Two Revenge Tour
Oshawa, Ont. – Buckle up, GensNation!
The Oshawa Generals have eliminated the Barrie Colts after a suspenseful Round One of the 2024 OHL Playoffs and advanced to Round Two for the first time since 2019.
The 4-2 series ended last Sunday at the Sadlon Arena when the Generals took the 3-0 shutout victory home. The entire series was filled with exciting, gripping, and intense playoff hockey, with goalies Jacob Oster and Sam Hillebrandt walking away with a shutout each, an OT-winning goal by 2024 NHLDraft prospect Beckett Sennecke in Game Four, and the final goal to close off the series coming from former Colts captain and Dallas Stars commitment, Connor Punnett. Colorado Avalanche prospect Calum Ritchie led the Generals through Round One with eight points, Oster made a total of 150 saves with 12 goals against in six games, and Matthew Buckley dominated the extra man-advantages with three power-play goals.
Round Two begins this Friday and Oshawa will be going face-to-face with Eastern Conference rivals, the Ottawa 67’s. You’re going to want a front-row seat to this series, as the Generals are coming in #RedHot, intending to change the narrative from last season’s 4-1 series fallout against the 67’s during Round One.
“Our players are excited to get Round Two and Game One get started,” says Head Coach, Derek Laxdal. “Ottawa is a well-coached team that competes every shift—it should be a great series.”
The Ottawa 67’s are entering the Round Two series on a high after knocking out the second-seed, Brantford Bulldogs. Ottawa also led their series 4-2 and had stellar performances by Samuel Mayer and Luca Pinelli who led goals with four each, Jack Dever with a team-leading eight points, as well as goaltender Collin MacKenzie making 174 saves on 193 shots. Game One began with success from the Bulldogs, followed by three back-to-back wins by the 67’s. Brantford brought some hope with a victory in Game Five, but Ottawa closed the series in Game Six in front of the Nation’s Capital.
This season, Oshawa and Ottawa have met a total of eight times, where Ottawa has taken the wins 6-2. However, out of those eight games, three have gone into overtime, and five have been a one-goal difference. Both teams are going to come in hungry, with Ottawa trying to rebound from last year’s series, while Oshawa looks to show that they’re a whole new team.
As the first seed, the Generals have a home-ice advantage for Games One and Two. Tickets for this weekend’s games are on sale now and can be purchased here.
