Offense explodes in 6-2 win over Mississauga
Oshawa, Ont., – It was a big return home for the Generals, as Connor Lockhart scored a hat trick as the Oshawa Generals beat the Mississauga Steelheads 6-2 for their third straight victory.
Beckett Sennecke had a three-point night and Calum Ritchie had a pair of assists while Jacob Oster made 20 saves on the way to picking up the win.
It was the Steelheads opening the scoring just under four minutes into the game as Angus MacDonell threw the puck on net creating a rebound for Porter Martone to put into the net giving Mississauga a 1-0 lead.
That lead would grow a short while later once again through Martone who striped the Oshawa defenceman and beat Oster for his second of the night making it 2-0 Steelheads.
But before the first intermission, the lead would get cut in half when Lockhart found himself in on net all alone, the over-ager made no mistake beating Ryerson Leenders making it a 2-1 game.
A little over halfway through the second, the Gens would tie it up as Luca Marrelli found Dylan Roobroeck coming off the bench, the big man set his sights and lasered a shot into the top corner tying the game at 2-2.
Less than five minutes later the Generals found themselves out front as Stuart Rolofs found Delisle on a 2-on-1 and the rookie buried his second of the year giving Oshawa their first lead of the game. Late in the second, Tyler Graham put a loose puck into the back of the net seemingly doubling the Generals lead, but after a quick review, it was deemed that the play was offside.
Under two minutes into the third period, Oshawa found themselves on a powerplay, when Sennecke made a nice slap pass to Lockhart who tapped home the nice pass giving the Gens a 4-2 lead.
With just under five minutes to go in the game, Lockhart would complete his hat trick when he finished off a 2-on-1 giving the Gens a 5-2 lead. Oshawa was not done there scoring a sixth goal on the powerplay as Sennecke found the puck laying in the crease knocking it into the back of the net making it 6-2 Generals.
These same two teams will clash again this Friday in Mississauga, with the Generals searching for win number four in-a-row. The Generals return home on Sunday for their final game before the holiday break, hosting the rival Peterborough Petes at 6:05.
