Jacob Oster named OHL’s Goaltender of the Week
Oshawa, Ont. – For the fourth time this season, Oshawa Generals’ Jacob Oster has been named OHL’s Goaltender of the Week for his performances in Round One of the 2024 Playoffs against the Barrie Colts. Oster went 3-1-0-0, 1.18 GAA, .954 SV%, 1 SO, 104 SV in four games from April 2-7.
Round One had the classic junior hockey playoff feel and Jacob Oster was a top star amongst the Generals. After three games in Barrie and one on home ice last week, Oster did not let the pressure of who was surrounding him get to his head. The netminder was named March’s Goaltender of the Month and has had an unbelievable season with the Generals, which is undoubtedly carrying over to the postseason.
The April 2nd matchup in Barrie is how the week started after a weekend in Oshawa for the first two games. The Colts hosted the Generals for a Round One Game Three Tuesday at the Sadlon Arena where the Gens took home the victory and took the series lead 2-1. The 5-1 success came from stellar performances by all aspects of the Gens and Oster stopped 15 of 16 that he faced.
April 4th came with the Generals looking to force an upset in Barrie, and they surely did. Oshawa and Barrie met Thursday evening at the Sadlon Arena for Game Four of the series where the Gens came back from a 3-1 slip and pushed to overtime for the 4-3 win. Oster stopped 34 of 37 and kept his cool for almost an entire extended frame before Beckett Sennecke sealed the deal with about three minutes remaining in overtime.
The April 5th game came quickly the following night when the Oshawa Generals were shut out at the TCC as they dropped Game Five 3-0, but it wasn’t a result of poor goaltending. The game went 0-0 for almost three full frames, but with four and a half minutes to go in the game, Barrie would break the deadlock, making it 1-0 Colts late. With two additional empty net goals, the Colts took the victory and Oster stopped 21 of the 22 shots.
April 7th the Generals came back to Barrie in hopes of closing the series. Oster deserved his first post-season shutout after standing on head and sending his team home with the high spirits of advancing to Round Two. Save after save, Game Six was a highlight reel for Oster, earning himself the recognition of the game’s First Star, OHL’s Save of the Night, OHL’s Performer of the Night, and being named CHL’s Top Star of the evening with his 32 saves.
This week will be one to rest and train as the netminder will make his return for Round Two against the Ottawa 67’s. The series will open this Friday at the Tribute Communities Centre and will be your next chance to see Oster in action. Tickets can be purchased here.
