Generals take down Sting for 10th consecutive win
Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals dominated the Sarnia Sting as they won to extend their winning streak to 10 games.
Five Gens had multi-point games in the win as Beckett Sennecke had a goal and two assists and Owen Griffin scored his first goal in the Ontario Hockey League. Jacob Oster was in net and the Oshawa goalie stopped 28 of the 30 shots that he faced.
Just over two minutes into the game, the Sting opened the scoring as Easton Wainwright took a pass from before gaining the zone and taking a shot that beat Oster clean for a 1-0 Sarnia lead.
Less than one minute later, the Generals would answer right back when Sennecke and Calum Ritchie went in 2-on-1, and it was Sennecke feeding Ritchie who found the back of the net making it 1-1.
It did not take long for the Gens to add another this time on the powerplay when a point shot from hit the end boards and came to Connor Punnett who batted the puck out of the air to make it 2-1 Oshawa.
To start the second period, it was Griffin skating in over the blue line before firing a shot under the arm of Karsen Chartier for his first goal in the OHL as he made it 3-1 Gens.
Later in the second, the Sting would answer as Carter Kostuch took a pass from Mitch Young, came in and beat Oster glove side cutting the Generals’ lead to 3-2.
Oshawa would respond with a little over five and a half minutes to go in the second period when Stuart Rolofs found a streaking Rasmus Kumpulainen who made a move to his backhand roofing the puck to make it 4-2 Gens.
To end the frame, Dylan Roobroeck sprung Sennecke on a breakaway and the draft-eligible winger went in all alone faking a move to backhand, sending the goalie the wrong way before sliding it in for a 5-2 Oshawa lead.
In the third period, the Gens would add another on a powerplay as the puck came back to Luca D’Amato who found Matthew Buckley and the winger hammered a one-timer past Kostuch for a 6-2 Generals lead.
With just under four minutes left in the game, Luca Marrelli got the puck to Connor Lockhart at the point and the forward took a shot that beat Kostuch clean to make it 7-2 Gens.
