Ben Danford picked 31st overall by Toronto Maple Leafs at 2024 NHL Draft
Oshawa, Ont. – Ben Danford has been selected in the 1st round, 31st overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Danford was selected 14th overall at the 2022 OHL Priority Selection by the Generals and in his rookie campaign, Danford recorded 4 goals and 17 assists for a total of 21 points in 63 games played. Danford earned the respect of his teammates, coaches, and all of GensNation as he quickly became a core member on the backend.
Danford has been one of the top defensive defencemen in the Ontario Hockey League this season in just his second year. He has shown to players, fans, scouts, and coaches why he deserves his ice time as he is known for his smart playmaking, vital shot-blocking, and strong gap control. He also uses his size and stability to be aggressive along the boards with hip-checks and one-on-one battles.
Danford notes his competitive level along with his skating ability is what strengthens him up against other teams trying to get by.
The 6’3 blueliner carries the puck with confidence and makes notable passes and plays for his teammates. Danford never hesitates to be the first in a scrum, in front of a shot, or a leader on and off the ice. Although his stats do not rank him the highest in points, his determination, persistence, and heart give him that overpowering edge against his competitors.
The entire Oshawa Generals organization would like to congratulate Ben and his entire family on this incredible achievement in his professional career.
