A Look-Ahead January 20th
Oshawa, ON – The Oshawa Generals will travel to the Nation’s Capital on Friday night before returning home on Sunday afternoon. With the two games this weekend, the Generals will look to end their current five-game losing streak and distance themselves from the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
The Generals were faced with a tough schedule the past couple of weekends, playing home-and-home series with the Windsor Spitfires and Sarnia Sting, two top teams in the crowded Western Conference.
Friday, January 22 – Ottawa 67’s @ 7:00
The Generals will head to Ottawa on Friday night to battle with the 67’s. This will mark the third time the two East Division rivals have met in 2015-16. When these two teams last met on November 22nd, it was the 67’s who walked away with a 6-2 win. The Generals goals came from Owen McDade and Matt Mistele. Sam Harding, Jack Studnicka, and Anthony Cirelli added assists. Oshawa goaltenders Jeremy Brodeur and Logan Gauthier split time in net, with Gauthier playing the final 20 minutes. Ottawa was led by ex-67 Travis Konecny, who registered five assists in the win. Dante Salituro had a strong performance, recording three goals and one assist. Leo Lazarev was another bright spot for the 67’s, recording 32 saves in the win. The two teams will meet four more times in the regular season following Friday night’s action.
Sunday, January 24 – Hamilton Bulldogs @ 3:00
To close out the weekend, the Generals will host the Hamilton Bulldogs in an afternoon game on Sunday. The last time these teams met on November 20th, the Generals won 4-3. Joe Manchurek and Mitchell Vande Sompel recorded two points each while Kyle MacLean and Alexandre Renaud chipped in goals to help lead the Generals to victory. Jeremy Brodeur was in net, registering 21 saves to earn the win. So far in the season series, the Generals lead 3-1, with the only loss coming back on September 26th. This game will be significant for both teams as they battle for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Sunday’s game will be presented by Bell Let’s Talk. This will be the fourth annual Bell Let’s Talk Day game in support of mental health. Anthony Cirelli and Bulldogs captain Justin Lemcke will participate in a ceremonial puck drop with Bob Simmonds, a member of the Bell Canada Board of Directors, and Tom Brown, Toronto’s foremost weather anchor with CTV News.
Fans will also have the chance to participate in a relay race during the first intermission, as well as win prizes from Bell throughout the game.
