GAME RECAP: GENS 2 ICEDOGS 1
OCT 15TH GAME RECAP
After a huge win on home ice against rival Peterborough Petes 5-2, the Generals went on the road to Niagara to take on the IceDogs. Tonight was game 9 for the Generals in regular season, the first time these two teams faced this season. Tonight was the Generals first win on the road of the season and also Kyle Keyser’s first win as a General.
1ST
Kyle Keyser started in goal for the Generals tonight and Stephen Dhillon for the IceDogs. The first 20 minutes of play started of slow, with a lot of end-to-end play, and penalties. At the 12:50 minute mark Mitchell Vande Sompel opened scoring, beating Dhillion. Cirelli and DiCarlo assisted his third goal of the season. After 20 minutes of play the Generals lead 1-0 in Niagara, with SOG 13-10 in favor of the Gens.
2ND
Entering the second period in the lead the Generals came out strong looking to add to their lead. Penalties came often and quick this period as Niagara looked to square things up. 4:44 in to the period a fight broke out in front of the Generals bench after Riley Stillman was checked from behind. This fight led to a 2 man advantage for the Generals, and they wasted no time with it. Domenic Commisso scored at the 5:50 mark, his goal was assisted by Studnicka and Vande Sompel. With 4 minutes left to go in the period the Ice Dogs started to come back, Matthew Philip scored on Keyser, assisted by Graham Knott and Hayden Davis.
3RD
The third period the IceDogs came out looking to even things up, with 12 shots on goal compared to the Gens 8 shots. The tempo stayed high through out the period as both teams hustled to be first on the puck. But by the end of 60 minutes of play the Generals prevailed, for their first win on the road.
