Oshawa and Flint showdown for Retro Night and #TalkToday

Oshawa, Ont., – It is retro night as the Oshawa Generals continue their home stand taking in the Flint Firebirds for the second time this season. Tonight is also marking the 10th season of the Talk Today mental health awareness game in partnership with CMHA Durham, presented by Syngenta and Grain Farmers of Ontario.

The Generals are coming off a loss to the Kingston Frontenacs, a game that could have seen Oshawa climb into the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a win. The Gens are currently tied for first in the East Division with the Brantford Bulldogs but have played one more game.

Flint enters this one on a three-game losing streak including a big 9-2 loss to the league’s top team the London Knights the last time they hit the ice.

Last Meeting

The last time that these two faced off was in Flint as the Oshawa Generals were on a Michigan road trip, and it was the Gens coming out on top 10-2.

Oshawa got out to an early lead and did not look back as the team scored five goals before the Firebirds managed to get on the board, the Gens would then respond with another pair of goals.

Flint got an early one to start the third period, but three unanswered goals would cap things off. Ethan Toms not only scored his first Ontario Hockey League goal, but he managed to find the back of the net twice, while Calum Ritchie was a key factor in this game picking up five assists in the win.

Player to Watch (Oshawa)

Matthew Buckley: The forward is second in goals on the team with 26, just one behind captain Stuart Rolofs. Buckley is currently riding a four-game point streak and over that stretch, he has six goals and one assist for seven points.

Player to Watch (Flint)

Oliver Peer: Acquired from the Windsor Spitfires, Peer has 12 points in 10 games as a member of the Firebirds. On the season the winger has accumulated 59 points including 28 goals and 31 assists leading the team in the team in all three offensive statistical categories.
