Regulation win can send Gens to postseason
Oshawa, Ont., – On what will be their final trip to Kingston tonight, the Oshawa Generals can let out a deep breath with a regulation win. A win in 60 minutes tonight would finally clinch that 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, separating the two teams by five points with only two games remaining. If the Frontenacs can win on home ice, it makes for a very interesting weekend as well, but we’ll hope it doesn’t come to that.
The Generals enter Kingston on a high, snapping their 8-game losing streak in their last outing, defeating the Mississauga Steelheads 6-3 on Sunday night. Sunday’s effort was the most complete game from the Generals in a long time, securing their first win in the month of March. The victory came from some unlikely heroes as well, as Matthew Buckley scored twice, while Oshawa native Luke Torrance, had a goal and two assists.
After some shakey starts as of late, Jacob Oster had a huge bounce-back game of his own, stopping 38/41 shots faced.
Kingston welcomes the Generals in during their worst stretch of hockey all season. The Frontenacs have just one victory in their last 16 games and are currently on a five-game winning streak. To make things a bit worse for them, their last regulation win came all the way back on February 3rd.
With three games left, and two left against each other, the Frontenacs still control their own destiny and can make the playoffs with two victories over the Generals and a win against the Barrie Colts on Friday. Any Generals victory against Kingston clinches the race.
All the action gets underway tonight at the Leon’s Centre, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
