McIvor earns weekly honour
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Mike McIvor of the North Bay Battalion has been named the Goaltender of the Week for the period ended Sunday, the Ontario Hockey League announced Monday.
McIvor posted a 2-0 won-lost record as second-seeded North Bay won the first two games, both at home, of a best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal against the fifth-seeded Sudbury Wolves. He posted a goals-against average of 1.50 and a .954 save percentage.
In the series opener Thursday night, McIvor provided 27 saves in a 5-2 victory. He followed that with 35 saves in a 5-1 verdict Saturday night.
Rookie McIvor assumed the crease when Dom DiVincentiis left Game 2 of a conference quarterfinal against the Kingston Frontenacs on March 30 with a first-period injury. McIvor got the win in a 7-3 home-ice decision and posted two wins in three more games against the Frontenacs as the Troops won the series four games to one.
In six playoff games, McIvor has a 2.27 GAA, a .916 save percentage and a 5-1 record.
In 18 games during the regular season, he had a won-lost-extended record of 8-9-0 with a 3.78 GAA, an .876 save percentage and one shutout.
The Battalion chose the Warkworth, Ont., resident in the fourth round, 83rd overall, of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection from the Quinte Red Devils U16s. The six-foot, 165-pound McIvor turned 18 on March 22.
Game 3 is scheduled at Sudbury at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. It can be seen live in North Bay on YourTV Channels 12 and 700.
