Greer signs with Battalion
NORTH BAY, Ont. — The North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League completed a two-day spring development camp with the announcement Sunday of another player signing.
Defenceman Kent Greer, chosen from the Barrie Jr. Colts U16s in the second round, 29th overall, of the OHL Priority Selection on April 12, has signed an education and development agreement with the Battalion.
Greer is a five-foot-nine, 154-pound resident of Renfrew, Ont., who turned 16 on Feb. 7. In 45 regular-season, playoff and OHL Cup games, the right-shot rearguard scored 19 goals and earned 40 assists for 59 points.
“Kent was a pleasant surprise to have still available in the second round of the Priority Selection,” said general manager Adam Dennis. “He’s an elite skater with natural offensive instincts while still being able to take care of his own end.
“He was a key piece on a very successful Barrie team, and we feel he can make an impact in our league at a young age.”
Greer is the second recruit from the 2024 Priority Selection to sign with the Battalion, after centre Ryder Carey, the club’s first-round pick from the Oakville Rangers U16s.
Camp wrapped up after a second intrasquad game between Team Green and Team White, played in three 20-minute periods. Nate McDonald coached Green, and Mark Bruner directed White.
A total of 35 skaters and goaltenders took part on the ice.
SECOND GAME RECAP
Javian Nei and Carey each scored two goals, pacing Green to a 7-4 victory and a sweep of the intrasquad games. Goaltender Carter Nadon earned the win, allowing one goal in the second half of play.
