Battalion schedule released
NORTH BAY, Ont. — The North Bay Battalion will open the 2023-24 season on Thursday, Sept. 28, with a 7 p.m. visit to the Barrie Colts, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Tuesday.
It’s one of two games on the OHL’s opening night, the other seeing the Kingston Frontenacs visit the Peterborough Petes. The Battalion opens its home schedule the next night against Barrie, completing the first of five home-and-home sets in the 68-game season.
The Battalion plays 34 home games, comprising 17 Thursdays, 12 Sundays, two Wednesdays, two Fridays and one Monday, which is a Thanksgiving Day date against the Owen Sound Attack. The traditional game has been restored after being missed for the first time in franchise history last season, when a curling event took over Memorial Gardens.
Within the Eastern Conference’s Central Division, North Bay faces the Sudbury Wolves eight times and Barrie, the Mississauga Steelheads and Niagara IceDogs six times apiece. In a new formula resulting from the Hamilton Bulldogs’ move to become the Brantford Bulldogs, the Battalion plays the East Division’s Ottawa 67’s six times, the Oshawa Generals twice and the other three clubs four times each.
The Troops face Western Conference opponents twice each, except for the Soo Greyhounds, who provide the opposition in four games.
Home games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday start at 7 p.m., while Sunday home games begin at 2 p.m., with exceptions on New Year’s Eve against Oshawa, which is a 1 p.m. start, and on Feb. 11, when Kingston visits at 3 p.m. The Thanksgiving Monday game starts at 2 p.m.
