67’s welcome Petes for Friday face-off

OTTAWA, ON – The 67’s kick off their weekend, hosting the Peterborough Petes at TD Place Friday at 7 p.m. Fans can also tune in at home on Rogers TV Channel 22, Flo Hockey, or listen to TSN 1200 for play-by-play from Kenny Walls.

Cooper Foster enters the game as the 67’s leading point-scorer with 33 over 32 games this season. Foster was instrumental for the 67’s most recent win over Peterborough, an 8-5 blowout, which saw the forward from Sault Ste. Marie, ON net a goal and three assists. The 67’s will miss forward Jasper Kuhta, who has headed to Minnesota, to represent Finland for pre-tournament games for the World Juniors.

The Petes will arrive in Ottawa with something to prove. The team, which is down three players to injury and will be missing their star forward, Adam Novotny, for World Juniors, is looking to break through into contention again after being an even .500 team over their last 10 games. Following a three-game losing streak, the Petes have upset the Brantford Bulldogs and overcome the Niagara IceDogs, salivating at the thought of beginning a win streak. Matthew Soto will be their player to watch, with 12 points over his last 10 games.

The Petes’ last game against Ottawa was a challenge, playing with a short bench and ultimately giving up eight goals. However, the Petes were able to score five despite the circumstances and had beaten Ottawa in the teams’ first meeting this season. It will be integral for the 67’s to bring the same lockdown defence that helped them clinch victories over the Flint Firebirds, Oshawa Generals, and Windsor Spitfires to Peterborough to give them the best chance to succeed.
