67’s downed by Firebirds
The Ottawa 67’s put a close on their week’s slate of games on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-2 to the Flint Firebirds.
The unfamiliar foes spent much of the first period feeling one another out, testing the waters offensively. That was until the 14-minute mark of the frame, when Connor Clattenburg threw a shot on net, which deflected off Alex Kostov and into the cage to give the Firebirds a 1-0 lead.
It was a good start to the second for the Barber Poles, knotting the score at one thanks to Kimi Körbler’s first goal of the season, but things turned sour quite quickly. Clattenburg restored the Birds’ lead, and Evan Konyen made it 3-1 soon thereafter.
Two minutes later, Clattenburg scored again, tailed by another marker, this time from Matthew Mania, putting Flint up 5-1 heading into the third.
Five minutes into the third, Will Gerrior narrowed the gap down to three, but that was a close as the Barber Poles ever got, as Flint skated away with a 5-2 win.
