2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge 67’s Recap

Three members of the Ottawa 67’s recently went out east to represent Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. In addition to Tolnai, Maggio, and Cranley two 67’s prospects also partook in the tournament, Colby Ambrosio (Canada) and Dylan Peterson (USA).

At the tournament, Hockey Canada submits three different teams so members of the 67’s did not all play together. Will Cranley and Matt Maggio played together as a part of Team Canada Red and Cameron Tolnai suited up with Colby Ambrosio on Team Canada White.

Following the round robin Team Canada White led Group A with a record of 3-0 and Team Canada Red went 2-1 good enough for second in Group B behind Team Russia.

In the quarter-final round Team Canada Red featuring Cranley and Maggio went head to head with 67’s prospect Peterson and USA. Less than 10 minutes into the game Peterson tucked one in to give the USA the early lead. Matt Maggio would respond and tie the game up at one with five minutes to go in the second period. It would remain 1-1 until the end of regulation and send the game to overtime. Team Canada would win the game in OT and advance to the semis while Team Canada White would be upset by Finland.

Team Canada Red and Finland would faceoff in the semi-finals and the remaining 67’s would be eliminated in a 5-2 loss. They  would go on to lose 4-3 in a shootout in the Bronze Medal Game.
