Mission accomplished!
Rimouski, QC – March 18, 2008 – With a feeling of having completed an important task, the Organizing Committee ends six months of hard work toward obtaining the Memorial Cup tournament for May 2009.
“Everything possible has been done to convince the members of the selection committee that Rimouski is the best choice for hosting the 2009 Memorial Cup tournament. The Organizing Committee worked on every detail to highlight the city’s and the region’s capacities and assets, as well as the accomplishments of the Océanic team and its great potential for 2009,” declared Hugues St-Pierre, chairman of the Organizing Committee.
Clearly, an event of this type cannot be put on without the help and input of many people. The committee members would like to thank their partners, who have supported the nomination of the city of Rimouski, as well as the people of Rimouski, who have shown their support more than in any other city in contention for hosting the Cup. More than 12,000 people have signed the nominating petition and more than 200 have already shown an interest in becoming event volunteers.
Mr. St-Pierre continued, “Since the beginning of the year, the Organizing Committee has set goals for this visit and has stayed focused to the end. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished. From now on, the final decision is in the hands of the members of the selection committee.”
Rimouski was the last of the five candidate cities to be visited by the selection committee. The final choice of the host city will be unveiled Thursday, April 3rd.
