Tigres’ Yanni Gourde Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that QMJHL top scorer Yanni Gourde of the Victoriaville Tigres is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 11 after recording nine points in two games scoring three goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Gourde began his week on Friday with a four-point game scoring two goals and two assists as first star of a 5-3 win over the Rimouski Oceanic. His second goal of the contest held as the game-winner and was his 20th goal of the season. On Saturday Gourde recorded his 17th multi-point game of the season with five-points scoring once and adding four assists despite an 8-7 shootout loss to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Gourde, a native of St-Narcisse, Quebec, will turn 20-years-old on Thursday. He is playing in his fourth career QMJHL season with the Tigres and is on pace to establish new career-highs in all offensive categories with 21 goals and 41 assists for 62 points through 33 games this season after recording 68 points in 68 games last season.
Also considered for the award this week was Philip Lane of the Brampton Battalion and Mike Winther of the Prince Albert Raiders. Lane scored once and added six assists for seven points in three games, while Winther scored eight goals and two assists for 10 points in four games.
